Hi,

I'd like some advice on what RAM I should buy for the following build:

https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/LNKVHh

I live in the UK and it's going to be gaming at 1080p on one monitor.

I've already purchased the HDD/SSD/MOBO as I've been salvaging old parts from my other PC.

I currently use 8GB in my current PC, so I plan to buy 8GB and upgrade to 16GB next year.

The build itself won't be complete until Jan once I have all the parts.

I've tried checking the MSI Website and that's left me more confused than I started as a lot RAM Models are out of date/replaced.

Any and all help is appreciated.

I've also attached a screenshot of the build:

Looks pretty good, would avoid the liquid cooler though. They're generally bad value for money as 120, since air coolers will outperform them. I'd say you could run with the stock cooler out of the box and for some light overclocking, and if you want more at that point you can get an aftermarket cooler.

Would probably be about as good I'm guessing (though depends on the model). I'm currently running the same cpu os you with the stock cooler, and for stock operation it's absolutely perfect, doesn't make the same racket as the intel stock coolers do. I've overclocked mine to 3.85 where I got into thermal limits and had to start cranking the voltage a lot more. But anyways, any relatively large air cooler with one or two fans should suffice.

The LowendLiquids aren't great (all sub 100 quid ones). The Deepcool Gammaxx coolers are likely to perform better and more quiet as well.

The AMD Wraith coolers are pretty awesome and no real need to go with anything else unless you plan on overclocking. I switched to a Corsair H80i GT for my Ryzen 1700 and it dropped the temps quite a bit, but then I moved to a smaller case so now I'm mostly using the AMD Wraith Stealth and even with the Ryzen 1700 it works great.

^^^ A good 120mm AIO is fine for an R5 1600, I have mine at stock on an EVGA CLC 120 and it can hardly break 60C, but air coolers are usually a much better value so long as you have the space. I only got the AIO because I was going for a quiet build in a very specific case and needed to minimize any hot airflow to the GPU since it's the part that overheats the most, thus an AIO as an exhaust eliminates the CPU feeding any hot air into the case. But for any other build you should be better off with a good aircooler.

Thank you all, sounds like I'm better off spending the £40 on another part of the system instead!

I have very, very little experience with overclocking so that's not my aim with this system.

Any thoughts regarding the RAM?

I have found the following on Amazon UK:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07CHPVVFN/?coliid=I1XNIKGVLBJ1&colid=3OYT2480M4PSY&psc=1&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B06XNRXCV6/?coliid=IENTOECPFQISR&colid=3OYT2480M4PSY&psc=1&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it

I would prefer RGB RAM as it'll add to the Black / Red LED theme I want inside the case but it's not a necessity.

Go with the 2600, man. Its like 30 bucks more and runs faster cooler, and at higher clocks with lower voltages.  Not to mention that XFR 2 boosts on all cores, whereas XFR 1 only boosts on 2 cores.  I would also go for an RX580 as it has already eclipsed the 1060 in most performance metrics, and it will continue to improve as AMD drivers mature.  8GBs of VRAM will also come in handy big time in newer games.  I also would not trust a CX550 to provide the needed wattage, as the CX is not up to par wioth the quality that is expected from the rest of Corsair's lineup. Go with a Supernova G2 or a Focus gold.

I edit the shit out of my posts.  Refresh before you respond.
