Hello hello everyone. So, i am planning on upgrading my setup from my current (i5-4690K/RX480) and i am stuck between these two. AMD's 1920X and Intel's 8700K. I am wondering if the i7 has enough beef to run highly processor intensive games i play like Cities Skylines on a lot of people. Currently i am getting 20-30fps (also it has been confirmed it is processor side slowing things down, don't worry, gpu is going to change as well.) 1920X would be slam dunk but one thing. The motherboards for it cost twice what they are for LGA1151. Is it worth it to save up a bit longer and get the 1920X or just get the 8700/9700?

The 1920X is not really recommended for gaming. You can, but it's more of a workstation-type CPU made for multi-core intensive work loads. I would consider the Ryzen 5 2600/2600X, Ryzen 7 2700/2700X, or i7 8700K/9700K. It depends on your budget and location and what you're looking for in a PC and all.

However, have you tried overclocking the CPU or GPU? Both could help you achieve more fps.

R.I.P. Asus X99-A motherboard, April 2016 - October 2018, may you rest in peace. 5820K, if I ever buy you a new board, it'll be a good one.

You do realize that until very recently when the 9900K came out, the 8700K was the best gaming CPU in existence, right?
