Hi guys, reaching out today as the family tech person.

My wife is a travel agent and her laptop has recently crashed. I had just suggested a basic all round laptop for her first PC as we weren't sure exactly what she would be doing. Now she 2 years in and we have a better idea but I am not sure if a Chromebook would work best or a laptop.

Overall she is booking people online through browsers, also watching promotion videos and google files. Overall she is not video editing or photo editing, and of course /sigh not gaming. I was thinking a Chrome book but want an SSD to allow better read and write speeds. We have my moderate gaming desktop for higher work loads.

I believe the his the best option but I am not familiar with chrome books and not 100% sure if this is the best route. Also waiting till the end of the month for sales but any devices to watch would be appreciated. Looking for about $400-$800 Cad but only if the upgrade is worth it.

Thanks!

Anything that doesn't work with the laptop will be your fault. Full Stop.

My suggestion is pick up one used off CraigsList or something, they are under 100$, have her try it out. If she loves it, then upgrade to a better one, if she hates it, re-sell for the money your paid for it, and go back to a "real" laptop.

NOTE: I no longer frequent this site. If you really need help, PM/DM me and my e.mail will alert me.

Good point, may go that route and see how it goes. I was able to salvage the old computer a bit so its limping along.

When chromebooks first appeared you were very limited to what you can do, but now you can do pretty much everything you want, even run Windows or Linux apps You can also modify your files offline and when you re connected to the internet your files will be synced up.

My advise is that if you go for a Chromebook don't spend more than 300 $. It won't worth it and it would probably be better to go for an Windows Laptop with a SSD.

Chromebook is getting better these days, but I still recommend a windows machine. Since your wife is not a tech girl, so learning new operating system will be a pain in the ass for both her and you (since you recommend this to her).

Since your wife does not have a heavy work load, so I'd say get a 128g refurbished/used Dell XPS 13 and manually swap the ssd is a good solution. With 8th-gen CPU, this laptop will last for a long time.

Other recommend models (all of these models come with 8th gen CPU and SSD, so they will last a very long time for your wife):

Thinkpad T480 (35% off right now, swappable RAM and hard drive, so you can get top spec with the cheapest model. Make sure you get the 8th gen CPU.) This laptop is overbudget once the BF deal is off.

Lenovo Yoga 730

Acer Aspire E 15

Lenovo Ideapad 330

Dell Inspiron 13 7370

HP pavilion 15
