Hello,

I posted this earlier but I wanted to update.  I am doing my first ever build - I have been using an Alienware 17 R2 Laptop for the past few years, and it is time for an upgrade.

I have gone through and chosen a parts list, a few other things as well I think I might need.  I was wondering if people could take a look at my list, see if everything works, see if anything should be upgraded or downgraded, and provide any input?

My plan for the PC (longterm) is to add a second GPU in SLI in a year or two, which is why I am adding extra power.

Information:

1) My budget is around $3000 CDN - I am in Canada.

2) AIM - An unnecessarily beefy machine.  I realize I don't need this power, but I want it.

3) I have 2x1080p monitors, and am planning on adding a GSync monitor in the future as a third (also 1080p) - I intend to do triple monitor gaming and potentially VR in the future.

4) I have mice and keyboards, but may upgrade those (doesn't need to be now).  - I will need Windows 10, and have that on the list.

5) I want to play every game on Ultra 1080p and I never want my framerate to ever drop below 60. EVER.  For the next few years.

Parts List (Potential):

ZOTAC GeForce GTX 1080 Ti AMP Edition 11GB GDDR5X 352-bit Gaming Graphics Card VR Ready 16+2 Power Phase Freeze Fan Stop

Corsair Tempered Glass Crystal Series 460X RGB CC-9011101-WW Black ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

WD Black 2TB Performance Desktop Hard Disk Drive - 7200 RPM SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache 3.5 Inch - WD2003FZEX

G.SKILL TridentZ Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 3200 (PC4 25600) Intel Z370 Platform Desktop Memory Model

Arctic Silver 5 High-Density Polysynthetic Silver Thermal Compound AS5-3.5G

C2G/Cables To Go 43037 Cable Ties - 100 Pack (Black)

Windows 10 Home Edition 64-bit

My main question right now is - how does my fan setup seem to you (3 case fans intake on the front, one rear fan (rosewill) exhaust, and then the two exhaust fans from the Cooler Master)?  How do I find the intake volume for my case fans?  Does it matter?  What do negative and positive pressure mean for me?  Did I make any mistakes?  Anything I should upgrade or downgrade?  Anything I am missing?

If you have any ideas or input let me know!  I know I don't need this much power, but I want it.

Hey yeah I used that to make my list, but it doesn't help much when it comes to fans and pressure.  I want to make sure I am doing the fans correctly.

If my cooler has 2x120mm fans that are exhausting, and the case has 3x120mm fans for intake, and then I add another exhaust fan to the back (120mm) is that good?  Do I need to know their exact intake values to make them exactly equal?

If you have the list in pcpartpicker posting the formatted list would have made it much easier sorting out the build list. In the build list click [bb] and paste the results.

Don't overthink fans. The most important goal is to establish a flow of cool air coming in the bottom/front and exhausting out the top/rear.

There is no need for the Arctic Silver thermal compound. CPU coolers come with a tube or pre applied pad of thermal compound.

Things can get tight in the 460X with tall memory modules and a top mounted radiator with fans.

Why not use a 2TB ssd instead of two separate storage units?

Office 2019 Home & Student is available from MS for CA$149.99.

Seasonic Focus Plus Gold and RMx 850W psu are arguably better than the G3 and less expensive. According to hardware.info both are quieter than the G3.

SLI is losing popularity. With the significant improvements in gpu performance many are finding a single gpu provides excellent gaming and is less troublesome.

You might want to rethink the build to include addressable RGB that can be synchronized by the motherboard. It would mean a different motherboard and case.

Awesome I didn't know that thanks!

I am a little concerned about that, but I checked out the 570X and I just don't like the feel of it.  And the 460X just feels right to me... I may end up side-mounting the rad if there isn't room but hopefully I can figure it out on top.

I think I can save some money here by doing the dual drives, its worked pretty well for me in the past.

I don't know anything about PSUs so I appreciate any input.  Have you used the Seasonic and RMX ones before?

I believe the front fans of the 460X are SP120 so they would be fine with a radiator. You could mount the aio radiator to the case fans as intake and move aio fans up top.

Not those particular models, but I've used Seasonic psu for years and the two psu I suggested have received excellent reviews. Both come with a 10 year warranty.
