Hi there

This is my first ever computer build (so please don't flame me =( ), and while I know a little amount about computer hardware already from reading, etc, I have almost no idea how to choose a motherboard to suit my needs. My build is currently looking a bit like this (subject to change, no doubt):

i7 4770k

Gigabyte GTX 770 (with plans to add another 770 in 12 months or so)

A-data premier pro SP900 128 GB SSD

Seagate 2 TB HDD

Antec High Current Gamer 850w PSU

A-Data XPG 8gb 2133 mh/z ram

Cooler Master Seidon 240m

Win 8

Cooler master N600

(on a side note, if you have anymore advice regarding the specs, please, go ahead)

I'd probably be wanting to do some reasonable overclocking so I can get more bang for my buck.

From what I've seen so far, these boards all seem to have reasonable features around my price range:

  • MSI Z87-G45
  • Asus Z87-Plus
  • ASRock Z87 Extreme6
  • Gigabyte G1.Sniper Z87
  • Gigabyte Z87x-OC

All these seem pretty reasonable, however I do not have the skills needed to properly select one.

Thanks in advance =)

I would choose the G1.Sniper because it has the best value/money of those boards.

I'm a bit bias towards Gigabyte because of the few ive gone through I've never had a single issue unlike the ASRock or MSI one that I've used. granted the only MSI one I used I ended up bricking because I was an idiot. Usually for a first build i'd shoot for a $130-150 board. Once you've gotten to that price range just look at the features and the one with the most you would like is the one for you.

My System Specs: (Short list) i7 4770k, GTX 780, many SSD's, a 2 TB HDD(deceased :( ), Corsair 650D. Full list: http://pcpartpicker.com/user/kchriz6097/saved/8dh7YJ

Upgrade Plan: Acquire some Black Noctuas then add 16 or 32GB of 2133MHz memory

Any one of those boards will do. You might also consider something like the Asus Z87-A. I rank the manufacturers, from best quality as Asus, Gigabyte, ASRock, and MSI. But Z87 motherboards all tend to be well made because they are aimed at the enthusiast and performance markets.

80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not quality.
