Trying to find a good NAS that is a good price. I already an idea of drives (Seagate 3TB IronWolf) I want, along with a network switch (Linksys 5port SE3005) but I am torn on NAS itself. I been eyeballing either the Synology DS218j, DS216se, and the recently found WD My Cloud EX2 (diskless). I'm not much crazy with the whole "access your files anywhere" idea on some of the NAS now a days, but at the same time, it can come in handly as long no one hacks into my little NAS that contains my 3D models and such. I been using Dropbox to transfer files back and forth between computers, but that has limitations.

I prefer a brand that is more on the "we been doing this for XX years," not a brand that just came out of nowhere yesterday.

The DS218j is a great NAS for just doing storage. I used the slightly older DS215j for years which has similar specs and that was a great little box. Even hosted a VPN server on it and a small Plex library (just DVD quality video and lower).

Support on the Synology NAS boxes is great. They're still updating devices that came out in 2012, so the extra cost of them is justified through support alone.

PC Specs - AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D MSI B550M Mortar - 32GB Corsair Vengeance RGB DDR4-3600 @ CL16 - ASRock RX7800XT 660p 1TBGB & Crucial P5 1TB Fractal Define Mini C CM V750v2 - Windows 11 Pro
