Are those space pants?

PainfullyAmatureExpert

Hey all, been lurking the youtubes for some time, came across the forums while board at work and looking for some answers for a build I have going....

This is my hello o/

Me: Engineering manager in his 30s with access to just about any machine you can think of and the ability to program/run every bit of it. Hobbies are RPi and Arduino, 3D printing, and Skydiving. RMTd my decade old EVE online accounts to focus on kids and carrier 2 years ago, cashed out for $2,500 and haven't looked back, also haven't found any games that I can say I'm passionate about since, though, I'll play Fortnight / Minecraft with my daughters from time to time. Currently spending my budget on skydiving and pre teen daughters I have 100% of the time (dat single dad life), but looking to try to carve out some cash to do personal build soon.... I have a beast of an MSI workstation laptop for work that will run games okay(i7-6820HK, Quadro M5500, 32G DDR4), but my desktop is under par and mostly just used for storage and watching youtube (core 2 duo). Personal build is looking like being a 1 off case I design, or at least a heavily modified off the shelf, I'll determine the exact hardware when I get about $5k USD in the PC build wallet, but for now, I'm liking the idea of a threadripper for 4k and 360 video editing, as someone who started building in the late 90s, I'm happy to see AMD back at the table.

Current build has RGB unicorn vomitron potential, but hopefully the Aura sync helps keep it somewhat classy. It's kind of nice to build a gaming rig from time to time, even if it's not for me.

My normal builds are custom tailored workstations for very specific/batch CAD uses at work, the latest was an 8086K to 5.2 and Quadro k5200 with 64G DDR4 3600, Keep in mind CAD softwares like SolidWorks are single core applications. I also build video editing rigs for various skydiving operations (Seriously itching to do a threadripper build now)  who mostly render 1080p these days, since they usually need to edit and render roughly 1 X 12 clip, 8 min long video every 7-10 min (plus transfer video & pictures to USB).

I look forward to bouncing ideas and info back and forth with some of you and contributing where I can.

Let us know how you go with the build in the build logs section, I'd be interested in following your process.
