for the people who missed it: it has an audio output on the back, where probably the left and right channels are connected in reverse order.

I saw the audio output, was more or less wondering where the audio was playing. Since it's in the monitor you can't do much.

 

To @truemax just get a 30 dollar set of speakers from walmart and you'll be much more happy than putting up with monitor audio lol.

i'm guessing he either already had speakers or has some device with VGA input and 3.5mm speaker input.

 

that said.. is there any reason *not* to use the on-board audio?

So just to make 100% sure, you believe the problem is the adapter and not the monitor? You had been using the monitors speakers previously with another adapter / audio device and channels were mapped properly?

As others have stated, if the adapter is the problem a quick fix would be using your on-board audio. If your on-board audio is busted and the adapter is the problem I'd try to get it exchanged, Amazon is great with returns / exchanges.

 

However if the monitor is the problem you could swap the channels using a few adapters:
