MSI 980 Gaming X fan problem

Marc_Gforce

I just ran into this problem. My 980, while full load, has only 1 fan spinning. Even at 90 degree Celsius (running fumark stress test). I have turn on the gaming mode and turn off Zero Frozr on MSI Gaming App. So I thought 1 of my fan just not working. But this is what I don't understand, when I use Cooler boost on the app, both fan run at 100%. Is this a driver issue?

Let's update driver,  clean uninstall with DDU and install latest update. After that update those apps as well and let's see situation.

Same with my MSI gtx970 gaming X, suffered for almost 3 years, known issue also for gtx 10 series.

not related to drivers/ win version.

only way to solve, manually push fan to start spinning

I am pretty sure that a driver update to 400-411+ causes it or it is just ironically fan age at time of update.

Seen it four times so far in the past week -plus my own card fans failing on a Zotac 970 AMP! series...

Problem is once it occurs on all fans it usually is terminal...

Three things to try if the fan doesn't spin after update:

1) Roll back to the driver before you updated to current driver -I mean a one before October of 2018.

2) If that doesn't work then uninstall the driver with DDU and clean install graphics card driver one -before 400 driver package series.

3) Final option:

Though I personally prefer the fans to run through molex instead of a fan controller.

Then again sound doesn't bother me much -computer set up in a loud environment anyway.

Ironically enough it may be that timing of the update driver and fan failure could just be a coincidence -though who believes in that.

Maybe it is just me but so far any 900 series card that I have worked on after being updated to a 400-411+ driver has had the fans die or barely be working.

Seen it four times so far -maybe it is just my and their personal unluckiness and it doesn't happen to everyone else with a series 900 after a recent 400-411+ driver update still... seems odd to have occurred four times to the same series of cards days within of driver release all within the same geographic location...

It must be a 400-411+ driver issue -or age -though no matter what the hardware damage is annoying.
