BO4 VRAM limitations

This is more a PSA for those who are thinking about getting Black Ops 4 or already have it and have been having weird hitches and stutters... the reason is Black Ops 4 is VRAM bound. I have a GTX 1070 and I am hitting the 8gb buffer and it is causing me stutter as it offloads the rest to system memory, and it is very noticeable. Here is a short video I did showing my in-game settings and you can see in the end of it  I hit the 8gb limit as the match ends. You can see my system specs down below in my signature.

 

 

Have we finally hit the wall with the 8gb VRAM limit? Rumors were swirling that the Turing cards were going to have 16gb of VRAM, but that turned out to be false, but what about in the future? Do you think in the near future, we will start to see consumer cards with 12-16gb of VRAM on them?

I think BO4 is one of those games that would eat up whatever VRAM you have, even GTX1080 Ti with 11GB of VRAM is being saturated. Perhaps there a memory leak issue with the game, no reason for it to just gobble down VRAM like that.

Yea, was another thought I had was some sort of Memory leak in the game.

Well, games are not really optimized on the lauch day, not surprised.

Game actually runs really well and is pretty damn optimized if you ask me beyond the VRAM limitations or memory leak.

I only played in 1440 for a day. Didn't have any issues. Even ran sli and had the highest frames in a game in a long time.

Stuck at using 1080p on the 1440p monitor because of a streaming limitation. 

 

Didn't notice a vram issue, don't even watch that anymore as almost every cod game has done so.

Maybe my definition differs from yours, if a game is 'pretty damn optimized' as you put it, it must NOT have such an issue in the first place.

with the slightly lowered video settings my vram usage never goes above 5.6gb so I dont think there is a leak, more just a demand on the game.

Not just BLOPS4, older CODs also hog VRAM like no other game. Try find option about Cache or VRAM fill and disable it.

Went back to 1440, only use about 6400mb's. Most settings on high or off. Don't play the game maxed out as a 1080 is weak and its an fps game so frames are life.

THIS.,

Blackops 2 onwards,... will cache EVERYTHING, your Vram gets chockers,..System memory usage goes nuts,...

I'm on my 4790K 4.5G + 24GB Ram + GTX1070, System Memory grows past 12GB used,... Vram is 6GB+

 

Runs like a dream though.... reviews and followups state that EXTRA preset for Shadows/Textures causes microstuttering on some system configurations.
