Hello, just have a quick question about ethernet. I have used wifi all my life, and after hearing how great ethernet was I decided that I want to try it out on the PC I just built. Wifi was working meh but I was hoping for better. I have 400 down 25 up wifi currently, and getting around 350 down and 22 up. I got a 1GBPS ethernet cable, plugged it into slot #1 on my xfinity router/modem thing, then into my ethernet port in my pc. It says "Unidentified Network" and "no internet". After doing a quick couple of searches, I heard of resetting, in cmd ipconfig /release then ipconfig renew, and more. when I tried release and renew, whenever I did it, I got this:
No operation can be performed on Local Area Connection* 1 while it has its media disconnected.
I have no clue what else to try, I made sure to run as administrator, made sure my ethernet drives are all updated, and everything is not working.

Did you make sure that you got a bi-directional ethernet cable?  Some cables only go one way so try turning the cable around to see if it works.

(sry, couldn't help myself.  been a LONG day)

Drivers would be my first guess.  Hope you figure it out soon but with your current speeds with the wifi, those are great.  I get about 85 down and 12 up and that is with cable.  I am in northern California, Humboldt county.

This has to do with the Windows Firewall. You have to tell it if your on a home, Work, or public network. Id try just rebooting the computer first. If that doesnt work, I would uninstall the network card drivers and reinstall them. Most of the time that fixes the issue. Also, make sure you disable WiFi. It could be getting confused over that, if WiFi is left on.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.
