Looking for cpu

Go to solution Solved by Sauron,

Honestly I wouldn't bother, your cpu is fine with that card. Unless you can find a good deal on a used chip (50$ or less) stick with what you have until you have enough money for a current gen setup.

Why 6th gen? 7th gen has better clocks and costs equally

i would say new platform but a new mobo is expensive. Go with the i5 7600k if you want to overclock and an i5 7600 if you aren't

I'm not sure that I will be able to overlock any cpu with this motherboard :D (it has a B150 chipset)

Does the PC use a standard motherboard? In which case a Coffee I3 or Ryzen 3 and a new motherboard would cost the same as an I5, while performing the same.

I guess its a normal motherboard (LENOVO THINKCENTRE S510), Coffee Lake is a bit expensive now.

keep in mind it's a motherboard from a OEM prebuilt, is it even possible to update the OEM BIOS to allow a newer gen CPU? also, even if it's the same socket & the CPU fits, dosen't mean it'll work.

also, I'm sure Coffee Lake i3 would be a no go, AFAIK Skylake & Kaby Lake boards are not Compatible with Coffee Lake CPUs & vice versa, unless Intel changed their mind & allowed BIOS updates so people could offically use a i3-8350k on a cheap Z170 board?
