I'm building  retro gaming console using a original Nintendo case and I want to find the smallest /flat power supply I can fit!!! I also want to use a small itx or micro atx mother board that can run core I7. I already started on a build using Zotac ion motherboard with a atom processor but it might be to weak if I want to run ps2 emulators on it.

You could try going for a picoATX power supply with wide input voltage range and power in using a laptop adapter or some other 18-20v x amps power brick.

The picoATX creates the voltages the mb needs.

Instead of going with an atom (super low) or an i7 (super high), why not go with something like an athlon 200ge (2 cores with hypertheading, so 4 cores in total, up to 3.2 ghz , and in 35w tdp)?  Should be easy to find an ITX format mb with a320 or b350/b450 chipset ?

I hear that AMD is not great at emulation so I would not even go AMD

Standard form factors get expensive as they get small.

SFX PSU is quite tiny, might work for your purposes

Flex ATX is server form factor, really good power supply but really expensive

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 11 and Fedora Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

PSU tier list

How many watts do I need?

PSU misconceptions, protections explainedgroup reg is bad

you're not wrong, but also not right. It's great at what it does, but it doesn't have vht support becouse it's a intel technoligy. but the amd equivelent is getting more and more support since ryzen came out

The only reason why they would not be great at emulation would be if the lack some specific instructions like SSE 4  or AVX ... The Ryzen series has pretty much all the instructions that matter.

With previous series \of processors that may have been true (for example the power hungry fx series) but the modern ryzens have ipc comparable to intel processors and the integrated graphics are comparable with dedicated graphic cards.

You've heard or may have read an article that was written 1-2 years ago, before ryzen was launched. Check ad see if the statements still stand with the Ryzen cpus.

Oh and to be on topic... there's also the option of going with industrial power supplies to get your 12v, and then use one o those picoATX power supplies to power the board and everything on it.

For example this one can do 100w at 12v and it's super easy to use : meanwell lps-100

Or a more square-ish format : delta DPS-100AP-11 A

You're joking... and what exactly do you think the power requirements are?

Like I said, the 200ge from AMD has a 35w TDP ... how low do you want to go? Intel alternatives aren't much lower, except atoms which go down to around 8-10w but then also the performance sucks.

Intel doesn't have any  iX with TDP lower than 35w... only Atoms

My issue still going to be I can to fit an atx psu and it needs to be small.. If I wanted to I can just add a laptop motherboard or a Odroid and call it finish but, I want something that is really more than enough of my requierements which is really PlayStation one but I said 2 because I have some power to spare

Im still at work on my Zotac build and I have not tested if it can run what I need to maybe it can but emulation is CPU intensive so, I want power to spare for my next project Maybe next build I will be using an original XBOX case which probably has more space but I wanted to have a powerful PC in a limited space Nintendo case.

I will be posting my progress here if anybody want to see how my current build is coming out.
