Question about drives...

Keita

Hi guys

I have been using my brand new computer for a while now and my budget is broken. While using it (playing games) I find that sometimes the

hard drive usage is almost always (if not all the time) stuck at 80-100%, which is making the games I play get stuck trying to read data or stuff

like that.

My current setup is an old 2TB Seagate Barracuda LP (5400rpm and 3Gb/s), atm I have a free drive which is a 320GB WesternDigital Blue (same 5400rpm and 3Gb/s interface)

my motherboard supports the 6Gb/s SATA but I currently don't have an hdd that has the same bandwidth so my question goes to, will the 320Gb drive be enough to keep

Windows 10 installed so that I can use the other drive for games? I don't use that computer for productivity and I also like to keep my Windows installs as minimal as they can be.

Also, will this help mitigate the bandwidth problem when reading the game data? Since there will be an hdd for Windows and another one for games exclusively.

Thanks.

Extra question, if I do that, should I install steam on the main hdd (windows) or the 2nd one (games only)?

Personally, I would run the 320gb drive with Windows and my main applications on it and keep the 2tb for games, movies, etc. However, I would also look into what is causing my main drive to be at 80% usage. Check resource monitor and see what is using the disk.

If possible, get an SSD for Windows. It makes a HUGE difference.

Windows often loves to hog Hardrive time for random tasks.

It is highly recommended to get a SSD for windows to sit on. It makes a huge difference
