Lock screen not responsive

Hi,

I have a problem with my PC: when I get to the lock screen my mouse moves around but nothing happens when I click anything. Same with keyboard, nothing happens when I press anything (yes, I tried ctrl+alt+del) but I can switch on/off the caps lock.

 

Tried system restore but it displays an error and doesn't finish. I successfully booted in safe mode but I don't know what to do next. Any ideas?

This exact problem comes up every so often on my laptop, running Windows 10 -- the only way to fix this is by rebooting the computer.

I rarely completely shutdown my laptop, though; it is either on, or sleep/hibernate...and only really off when the battery runs out of charge.

System restore does not fix this.

Believe it or not I got this issue when my motherboard was dying. Either try a BIOS update or some serious troubleshooting on a hardware level, but this error is extremely bizarre and has some unlikely causes.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

 

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 11 and Fedora Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.
