Hi all,

So I have a question on the display options for a gaming and work rig. I want the best display I can get, but I do not want to pay the tech tax for a G-Sync IPS monitor (even at 1080p/1440p its almost a $500 difference from freesync, which I find insane). So I'm looking at whether or not at a high FPS G-Sync even makes a significant difference, and at what point or circumstances it becomes necesarry to use it to maintain good visuals. Further, I would like to ask if it is better to go with a Freesync and running a pair of 480s or 64, or to go with a RTX card and a non G sync display, possibly even still running it with a Freesync display in case AMD releases some surprisingly good GPUs down the road as is being rumored. Looking for 1440p 144hz or constant 4k 60hz+ ideally. What would be your personal preference?

If you're going to push frame rates as high as you possibly can, that limits the necessity of GSYNC or Freesync. And if you can guarantee frame rates are going to be higher than the refresh rate most of time, then on an NVIDIA card you can enable Fast Sync to prevent tearing (not sure if AMD has an equivalent option).

As far as going for 60Hz or 144Hz, I think it depends on preference and what you play. If you're not playing games that need twitch reflexes and you play on a competitive level, then 144Hz doesn't really add a lot of weight.

I tend to play FPS the majority of the time, followed by open world games or strategy such as Fallout, Skyrim, and Civilization. Thus the competition between 4k or 1440p, as I sadly cant quite afford a $2,000 monitor for 4k 144hz
