Is it time?

So the main parts of my build are:

CPU: i7 4790k 4.4Ghz

Ram: 8GB 1866Mhz (2 x 4GB)

Mobo: MSI Krait Z97s

GPU: EVGA GTX 970

 

Is it time to upgrade this system or just upgrade 1 or 2 components?

 

I feel like I will get the most bang for the buck by upgrading my GPU.

 

However, it seems like now is a good time to upgrade the CPU/RAM/Mobo platform.

 

Although, I don't feel like I have much of an issue as far as what I play and use.

 

I guess I am curious if I upgrade the graphics would the main components cause me to have a bottleneck?

Pump that graphics card up to a 1080 ti and get 8 more GB of RAM.

 

Like you said though, if you're satisfied with performance there's absolutely no reason to upgrade.

Id just upgrade the gpu, maybe add another 8GB of memory 

 

the 4790k should still hold up decently

CPU should be fine for a while. I'd make sure you have at least 8GB of ram, and maybe upgrade the GPU.

None. The CPU actually gets bottlenecked in a very similar Way by middle end graphics cards to modern CPUs. Pretty great diminishing returns curve for the 4790k, and I considered getting a Titan XP back when I still used mine.

Currently game at 1080p on a 60hz panel

 

Keep hearing that 144hz refresh rate is like seeing a completely different game.

I like to game at 75Hz+, as I haven't seen much difference in 80 and 120 Hz.  Below 75, I can make out the refresh a little.  That's me tho, I'm 45 so the eyes aren't brand new

 

I'd go 1080Ti + 8GB RAM as said above, just adding my thumbs up for that mix.  Then buy or borrow a nice monitor locally so you can give it back if you don't like it as much as you thought, but I'd stick to G-Sync and Nvidia personally.  If funds allow, that is.

If you're budget minded and only targeting 1080p60, then yeah sticking with an RX 580 or Vega 56 is a good move

Wow, the nvidia side of the gsync and freesync battle is a lot more expensive.

 

The monitors that offer gsync are a lot more than those with freesync.

 

Plus amd graphics are cheaper right now.

Yep.

 

It's very expensive to get that last little bit of performance increase, as always.  It's not worth it from a bang/buck perspective.  Then again, we all don't drive Kia's, do we? 

 

Get what your budget and conscience allow.  G-Sync is nice but not the end all be all.
