In the required section of the Intel Optane site it states:

Quote

7th Generation (or newer) Intel® Core™ Processor.

So if you have a 8th gen CPU you will be just fine. :) To take full advantage of Optane you should use it with a hard drive. This way you can save and still get great capacity :)

So um, yeah, buy a full sized SSD instead of an Optane module. Put your OS and most commonly played games on the SATA SSD, and everything else on the HDD. A SATA boot SSD will be faster than an Optane module if you regularly access more than the amount of data the Optane module has capacity for, and honestly, provides 2-3x the speed over an HDD anyway.
