Hi,

This October, I'm finally upgrading my desktop. I'm looking to spend around $300 on a new motherboard, CPU, and RAM. I'll be using it for web and mobile development, but also video editing using Premiere and After Effects. So I got this:

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

CPU: AMD - Ryzen 5 2600 3.4GHz 6-Core Processor  ($165.99 @ Amazon)
Motherboard: Gigabyte - B450M DS3H Micro ATX AM4 Motherboard  ($69.99 @ Amazon)
Memory: G.Skill - Aegis 8GB (1 x 8GB) DDR4-3000 Memory  ($63.99 @ Newegg)
Total: $299.97
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

I'm planning to get an extra RAM stick next month, but more importantly a new GPU. I play mostly sports games, and I buy all my games of other genres when they are very discounted (under $10 or so) so they are usually 2 years old or more. I also don't upgrade often. I currently have a GTX 750, which I would like to upgrade with the best GPU under $200. I saw RX570's with 4 or 8 GB of memory at this price range. Is this the best choice? I see rumors of new AMD cards coming, so is it the right time to upgrade?

Thanks

I would rather go out of budget for a motherboard that doesnt suck in overclocking.

RX 570 is better than 1060 3gb, that's for sure.

No need to wait for new AMD cards specifically, performance gains are small. If they just so happen to be released and are well-priced when you have the money, buy them. Otherwise, get the 500 series card.

I would also aim for 16GB of RAM over just 8. I tried editing in Premier Pro with 8GB, and it wasn't that pleasant of an experience.

As I mentioned I'll throw in at extra RAM stick along the way. You need to start somewhere ;)

Getting a used 1060 6gb or rx 580 off eBay is a good move. New AMD cards will be a little ways away, so unless you're very patient, it's not worth waiting.

Edit: don't forget to use DDU to remove old drivers.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 11 and Fedora Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

How many watts do I need?

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

Why? Can you elaborate on that?

Pro 4 is generally the best budget board due to VRM heatsinks

Tomahawk is just slightly better on the VRM and has USB bios flashing for slightly more money.

What are the advantages? Are there any if I'm not overclocking?

Your board will be more stable and last longer in general compared to a board with no heatsinks.

Pro4 is also a really good all around board.

Buy B450 if you can so you don't have to worry about the bios

but the B350 board is probably updated for the 2000 series
