Normally 12MB/s downloads, steam, Geforce Now

Usually my download for steam are in the 5-12MB/s territory.

I downloaded a game through Geforce Now, and the download speed was 35MB/s.

My ISP speed is 120MB/s. (so roughly maxed at 15MB/s)

 

How come the download speed for the Geforce Now game download exceeds that?

Probably because GeForce Now is reading in Mbps?

Steam defaults to MB/s.

Not bits. It was 35 Megabytes per second.

Does Steam have a download speed cap set? What download server are you using?

I don't think so.

I think when I was downloading the game through Geforce Now-Steam the server said Toronto? The same as using steam that isnt through the Geforce Now.

 

But yeah. I know it was in megabytes because of the speed of the download itself. How fast it went by for that game.

Steam usually autoselects based on location (I live in Huntsville, AL; it's not that far from Atlanta so it selects that server) so if it selected a certain server, you can check and change that.

Geforce now does not download games to your computer. All it does is "Remote desktop" you to a special computer with gaming hardware in it. You were able to download at 35mb/s as it wasn't your connection

That would prove next to nothing. 

 

Take a look at what geforce now is. It`s a service where you can "rent" a gaming pc to play AAA games without the need of buying the hardware yourself. It's not a magic program that makes games run good on crappy computers

Because you get the game streamed from a beefy gaming pc that's located somewhere in a server farm.

 

It's just a fancy remote desktop not black voodoo magic
