So i just upgraded my gpu from a 1050ti to a 1080 and i was noticing too much of a fps increase which was odd. I then opened msi afterburner to find that my 1080 was sitting at 35% usage while my cpu is form 98% to 100% and cannot nderstand why this happening. Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

System Specs:

i5 6500 @ 3.2GHz

8GB DDR4 @ 2133

Gtx 1080

rm 750x

it's either a bottleneck , or something about the game you are playing is loading the cpu too much for no reason

or some other program besides the game is using a significant chunk of the cpu while you are gamming , check task manager what does it say for usage as far as other programs go?

@emosun So its a cpu bottleneck? if so what cpu would be good enough too handle it?

I7 6700 or better, some kind of i7 or an 8th gen i5 really.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 11 and Fedora Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

Not sure what MOBO you have, but a 7700K is probably the best option for you.  OC up to 4.8-5GHZ and it will improve your FPS.

You have 2 sticks of RAM, right?

It happens no matter what game i play i get around 50% usage max on the gpu and 95-100% on the cpu

Desd giveaway for a bottleneck

Even without overclocking an i7 7700k will benefit a lot, but I recommend the non-k. Still a big jump.

Don't.  Get a z370, or new z390 when they come out and buy a new CPU, if you have the money.

It's wasteful to just ditch the old parts, they're still good. Idk why so many people have a boner for coffee lake, you'd think it cured cancer. It's not worth the work of taking the motherboard out for 3 more FPS in my opinion, but I guess OP can decide.

If he could OC on his current board I'd say keep it, but he can't.  And if he is going to buy a new one, Kaby and Coffee are technically better.

EDIT- read your last post first, see below.

THIS.  With an updated BIOS you can use the nonK.  This is the cheapest/easiest way.

I dont mind about the money as long as its not to the point of breaking my bank so an i7 8700k and what motherboard is overclockable and not overly flashy but somewhat cheap?

Well an 8700k and a z370 is about $500 for mid range  motherboard + CPU so if you can afford that you're good
