I would recommend a AX760i its a bit more then their CX line but is a more quality and modular cable management and you can use the iLink software to control the fan speed and look at its temp. But I have no idea what your system specs are.  If you don't need that high wattage and will always use only 1 video card then grab what Herman said. 600 or so watts will be fine.

Asus Sabertooth x79 / 4930k @ 4500 @ 1.408v / Gigabyte WF 2080 RTX / Corsair VG 64GB @ 1866 & AX1600i & H115i Pro @ 2x Noctua NF-A14 / Carbide 330r Blackout

Scarlett 2i2 Audio Interface / KRK Rokits 10" / Sennheiser HD 650 / Logitech G Pro Wireless Mouse & G915 Linear & G935 & C920 / SL 88 Grand / Cakewalk / NF-A14 Int P12 Ex
AOC 40" 4k Curved / LG 55" OLED C9 120hz / LaCie Porsche Design 2TB & 500GB / Samsung 950 Pro 500GB / 850 Pro 500GB / Crucial m4 500GB / Asus M.2 Card

You are comparing a $50 PSU to a PSU that is $200 that has been discontinued for quite some time...

Most single GPU and CPU computers will work fine with a 400W PSU. 600W PSUs don't make any sense what-so-ever.

The fact that the guy is looking at low end PSUs, probably says they have a cheaper system (or they are spending the money in the wrong places).

Ok then grab the Corsair RM 650x and you will be set.  It's gold certified and modular cable management and 100 dollars shipped.  In the future it can handle a 1080 GTX no problems.  Corsair RM 650x Also its Gold certified.

Good one snapcrackpop and Comic_Sans_ms.  Im thinking in the future if you want to get a 1080.  If he gets a 500watt or lower you can forget about a video card update pretty much.  Or you can go the EVGA route and get a cheapo PSU for 60 bucks. 500watt.  But don't expect a new video card in the future to work properly on it.

You said your PC has a i3 8350k, and a GTX 960. You will EASILY use under 250W.

https://www.anandtech.com/bench/GPU15/1240

Get a Corsair CX or CX-M (or even better, a Corsair Vengance), BeQuiet PurePower 10, Antec Earthwatts Pro instead.

You will be fine with a 400 or 450W PSU. And you probably shouldn't use a low end PSU with a 1080ti anyway, so when you upgrade (which you likely won't, and will just get a new PC instead), get something like a RM550x.

No. You are really wrong about that. A PC with a GTX 1080ti and extreme edition uses 380W AC, so about 320W from the PSU. A 400W PSU should suffice for most single GPU and CPU computer.

Good post.. I sorta want him to be future proof that's all.  Also I don't know if he wants a modular PSU.  If he doesn't care about modular cable management then for that system a 400watt will suffice.  However its not future proof.  I think his decision is made to just wait it out until he does a full upgrade to get a PSU then.

Evga is a good company, but I trust Corsair more and they have never let me down.  Grab the Corsair 550 white.  The 750w will make you future proof, but if you don't care about the future and care about the now then grab the 550 white like I said.

thinking that you need a 750w PSU for a GPU upgrade and that it's "futureproof", recommending entire brands instead of exact units(every brand sells crap), one of his replies makes it sound like he thinks there's no modular 400-450w PSU out there. the CX450/M and coolermaster masterwatt are good budget PSUs at around $60 or so.

No, both are shit and utter crap and must be avioded!

Get a Bitfenix Formula, Whisper M, be quiet Straight Power 11, if possible.

400-550W is enough.

IIRC, Bitfenix Formula is available for that Price on Newegg.ca

Sorry Herman, I just meant if he wants a 2080 GTX in the future he might run into trouble with a 400 or 450 watt.
