Flash, SD, or MicroSD for a keychain toolkit

So i'm wanting to buy a storage device that I can put on my keychain to have all the time for things like bootable ISO's and software..

I want the good read/write performance for my dollar!

Also have a couple questions:

- Do SD/MicroSD cards boot operating systems well, and how often do they have problems being supported to be bootable (especially with older computers?)

- I'm curious as to how much bandwidth is the maximum compared to usb if it was something like a 2008 laptop without USB 3.0, would the SD card slot be better speeds/bandwith? Like an old dell latitude has an expresscard 64, so would having a usb 3.0 adapter/card give me more versatility by giving me more bandwith during those scenarios?

Thanks for any suggestions!

Why not a USB drive? Much easier to connect to the keychain (some already have a hole to put the keychain through) and harder to lose compared to tiny microSD card.

Also it is more convenient with USB as you can get better/faster storage and most computers have a USB port, whereas SD ports are a little harder to find.

Well as I alluded in my post, I was wondering if SD cards are better for price or maybe even speeds for bootable purposes. The idea would be to get a usb adapter that encloses the sd card (making it around the same size as a flash drive) that could then be on my keychain. Something like this

@jj9987

i think that's what he ment by flash, i could be wrong tho.

I would just look for a tiny usb 3.0/3.1 flashdrive.......

PS

Sandisk has been disappointing me with there failure rate lately.......

Oh yeah sorry, I meant Flash Drive Vs MicroSD vs SD

You may get better speeds if we compare high-quality SD card with a low-quality USB drive. But I wouldn't get my hopes too high, my experience has shown that USB drives tend to have better performance and higher reliability. (Just for reference, UHS Speed Class 3 supports at least 30MB/s write speed)

If you want long lasting drive, I'd spend a little more and get a good quality USB drive. I find it more convenient to just have a USB drive to carry along. As for price, I don't think the prices are that different, but I may be wrong here.

Hmm yeah, also my link was wrong, the sd card would be in here. So it'd really be the same size / convenience of a usb drive, with the added factor that you could take it out and put it into a card slot if needed..

Here are a couple options i've found:

$16 for 90 / 70 write speeds MICROSD

$17 for 200 / 35 write speed FLASH DRIVE

$25 for 90 / 55 write speed SD CARD

It just seems that flash drive write speeds aren't very good when comparing price for performance.. How much do write speeds affect something like a live operating system? Thanks!
