So I have had my laptop for about 6 years now.

Specs:

Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i3-3110M CPU @ 2.40GHz

Video Card: Intel(R) HD Graphics 4000

RAM: 8.0 GB

Operating System: Microsoft Windows 8.1 (build 9600), 64-bit

I am going to graduate with an Associates Degree in Mechatronics which is a combination of Robotics, Engineering, and Physics...ect.

I love messing with Inventor, Fusion 360, and other CAD programs for design work, but I would like to do a bit of gaming as well. I would like the laptop to last for a while, and my budget is $800-$1000 USD. Could yall help me out please?

Easy way to describe mechatronics is: I can buld Transformers.

My call is acer predator helios 300

i7-7700HQ

GTX 1060 6GB

16GB of ram

Around 1000 usd on amazon

This is my choice if you want to do both. I think it can do it. Though it is a little bit heavy.

Quote me so I can reply <3

2. Lenovo Legion Y530 - 8750H+1050TI, 8GB RAM, 1TB HDD, low sRGB IPS (optional 144Hz IPS)

3. HP Pavilion Gaming - 8750H+1050TI, 8GB RAM, 1TB+16GB Optane, optional 144Hz IPS

Mediocre cooling

4. Dell G3 15 - 8750H+1050TI, 8GB RAM, 1TB+128GB, low sRGB IPS

Mediocre cooling

5. MSI GP63 refurb - 8750H+1050TI, 16GB RAM, 1TB+256GB, low sRGB IPS

Notes:

1. If you don't need much GPU, 1050 is enough. 8750H is recommended for your usage, however it runs hot. Undervolt+repaste are highly recommended

2. 16GB RAM is recommended for your usage

3. SSD is recommended, Optane is fine

4. If you're fine with low sRGB IPS, go for it since it saves cost

What do you mean by 'mess up'? Putting too much? Or something else

Well I don't know how to repaste. I don't know if i accidentally spill some on the laptop components or whatever will it mess it up? I don't know a whole lot about computers so sorry if it doesn't make sense.

With a nonconductive paste most likely not. With liquid metal definitely. Honestly I consider it the manufacturers problem. If I get one that thermal throttles I will return it until I get one that doesnt. After warrantee that's a different story. Quality control in laptops currently is poor at best.

Usually not unless you use conductive ones like LM
