Fixed the build in general.

You should either get a 4k IPS display if 60hz, or a 1440p 144hz TN display,  IPS there is like +$150

PC is like $1600 without monitors in the build.

Also the case you picked has no airflow, the RL06 has some of the best in class, but is on the slimmer side so taller air coolers won't fit

I'd suggest going with the locked i5-8600. Doesn't overclock but has performance very close to the i5-8600K.

I've changed to an H370 motherboard that has nice RGB lighting and can sync with the case, memory, and fan lighting.

Thanks. I am looking for a build that has some RGB lighting and I can’t make use of two monitors since my desk doesn’t allow it.

I see how I can benefit from having a 144hz monitor, which I will look into.

I meant pick one of those, I'd go for 4k over 144hz having used both, I don't really notice the higher refresh rate even though I play esports titles.

Buy an H500P mesh if you want RGB I guess

Thanks Herman,

The 8700k might be a bit too powerful for what I am doing with my computer.

I have never over clocked my computer in the past and wouldn’t want to risk doing so on such an expensive piece of hardware.

Also, I’m not too big on 4K monitors and would prefer a 1440p 144hz monitor if possible.

I love all the RGB options as I am into that sort of thing.

the i7 will perform much better at adobe compared to the i5, and it'll last alot longer without needing an upgrade. there's no point in getting an 8600k and Z370 board when you aren't overclocking, get a locked i7 and B360 board instead.

Thanks for input and I’ll look into the 8700 and a b360 motherboard. I mainly chose the 8600k as people highly recommend it and it is cheaper than the i7.

Ryzen will be fine and save you a ton of cash, buy the i7 8700 if you're going coffee lake

Would an i5 8600 last for a few more years or would you recommend getting an i7 8700 in that case?

Also I like the RGB motherboard, but I am wondering if I will be able to use the ram as the board doesn’t support up to 3000mhz.

Thanks for the input!

If the i7-8700 can fit the budget it would be better. The build I suggested is good for an i7-8700 as well.

The memory should run at DDR4-2666. The DDR4-3000 kit is AU$20 less than the DDR4-2666 kit.

Ryzen is like half the price and has about 80% of the i7's performance, still going to be at over 100fps in any modern AAA game

For a primarily gaming system an i5-8600 or i7-8700 would be the better choice. If budget is an issue, then a Ryzen 5 2600 will do a decent job.

Doesn't matter if you have a micro ATX board in an ATX case, the decent X470 boards look way overpriced in AUS, probably get the MSI Tomahawk at most for the bit better VRM vs the ASrock Pro 4

Just check out benchmarks, if you're doing 4k 60hz gaming your CPU won't matter

if you need the best 144hz gaming grab an i7

here's a rough estimate on the average difference in AAA games.

I’m now looking at getting a ryzen cpu, but I like the idea of swapping the 1080 for the Vega 64 as it’s not too much more expensive.

You'd want Vega 56, 64 isn't worth it for the small performance bump

you're also likely to end up with a free-sync display, which only works with Radeon cards, just a nice bonus really, useful at 4k though

Forget the tomahawk, motherboard pricing is crazy in AUS

Would using different cpus be a large difference in terms of fps? The Ryzen ones are budget friendly and I can spend the money elsewhere (maybe towards a better graphics card or egg lights).

I linked the average fps difference earlier

in simple numbers if ryzen is getting at least 100fps you can expect 120fps or more out of coffee lake

at 4k it really doesn't matter because you're going to be GPU bound

You should expect medium-high settings with Vega 56 at 4k in the average AAA game. Mostly just turn off AA and shadows, and maybe turn on the HBCC cache in the driver software, just google it later.
