So I bought an iphone xs on launch day and have had eye strain and headaches ever since. This was my first time using an OLED screen and I'm sure that it's the cause of the problem. Anyways, I'm going to prob. end up returning it and getting a different iphone. But which one should I get? XR, 8 plus? Or should i get the 7 plus and wait for next year's phones? What should I do? Will I get adjusted to OLED? Thanks for the help!

Did you try lowering the brightness? I find it odd an OLED panel would cause you that kind of issue.

Turn down the brightness. OLED panels tend to get very bright compared to traditional LCD panels as they emit their own light. I know my S7 on max gets stupidly bright and it's not even HDR compatible.

I've done night shift, lower brightness, higher brightness, pretty much everything. Apparently it's something that affects some people. OLED screens do something kinda weird to change brightness, they flicker.
