Hi guys,

I recently received my 1920x today and I saw these marks on the IHS. The marks are in a perfect square and do not wipe off trust me I have tried.

From some information from a rep at AMD I have been told it is fine due to it being from either manufacture or even more testing on the cpu before being sent to the retailer. Therefore, he said that my CPU may well perform exceptionally due to it being properly binned and tested. However any help from you guys is much appreciated as this isn't a cheap chip and the retailer I bought it through is not being good about this at all and believes it is my fault, this got me really annoyed because this is clearly long term over tightened usage of an older cooling block on the IHS. But from what the rep said I am much happier, but any help or information you guys can give is much appreciated.

Thanks guys, seb

I say keep the emails with your rep as proof you noted something that could be considered "damage" before you used the CPU, and if something goes wrong, use it as evidence if the retailer won't let you send back DOA or if AMD won't RMA.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

yeah I agree, I have a friend who owns a tech shop call the rep so he has all the information and I have all of the pictures and he has some as well

Function wise it should be fine. Nickel-plated copper is far from scratch-proof. Just look at how the lid of CPUs used all the time by reviewers (Linus's 6950x for example) turned glossy and all the printing are scratched off.

yeah, and I definitely understand this its just the IHS is proper stainless steel and for a brand new sealed product to have marks like these it did get me slightly worried, and also the fact that I don't have a motherboard to test it on yet im still slightly worried but I feel much better after what the AMD rep said

Neither of my chips had those kinds of markings... very strange.

Same with my friend, but from what the rep said it shows further testing and he said it might be a really good CPU but there is always a chance that something could be damaged and that is where im worried. The worst part is the supplier did not want to offer any help, plus he didn't know anything about computers and was still trying to tell me that it was my fault, and marks like that cannot be caused in the space of the 4 hours I have had my CPU because they are clearly from the testing cooling blocks that AMD use and one that has been slightly over tightened. but hopefully from what the rep said my CPU should overclock amazingly

Yeah, you might have the golden ticket that was selected from extra testing if that's a thing. Well, consumer protections should be in place and AMD has been great with warranty, so hopefully all goes well. Good luck!

then just RMA to AMD and completely bypass whoever you bought the CPU from :D

Sounds like a good idea actually, do you know the best way to contact them?

I guess ask their customer service team? I suppose its the same as buying from online stores. Just send them a proof of purchase.

sadly I don't have a motherboard to test it yet, Im going to have to wait till the end of the month to get paid and order it. The main reason why I got the CPU was due to inflation of intel chips bought these down so I got it for £377!!! which is crazy. either way the company I bought it off have to give me a refund if its DOA no matter when I actually use the CPU. what do you reckon I should do tho pay someone to test it or wait till the end of the month?

just wait, there is no reason it wouldnt work. Even if its doa, being a new cpu it has warranty anyway.

it was £350 at ccl a couple of weeks ago so £377 isnt the greatest deal ever. i bought my 1950X for £380 last week

yeah ikr my intel cpu would have been £430 which is just crazy. Also, how was your experience with ccl because I told them about this and they started throwing out accusations towards me and my friend who owns a tech shop and also didn't know anything me and him were talking about. Im defiantly never shopping with them ever again anyway.

But yeah your right warranty will cover it and thats what I was thinking either till Black Friday in Nov to buy my motherboard or at the end of the month not too sure yet. but either way I can't wait im so hyped

ccl are always diks tbh. never buy anything from them unless i need it that day. ocuk are much better but over the past year they have really been hiking up their prices compared to everyone else. amazon is normally on pint with both service and price.
