I'm looking to upgrade my current computer in the near future, starting with the CPU. (Currently have an overclocked i7-4770k - great CPU, never had any problems).

I primarily use 3D applications for modeling, texturing, lighting, rendering, and compositing. I also do casual gaming on the side.

I'd prefer a CPU with as many cores as possible. I admit I've been an Intel fanboy since I started getting into computers, but up until recently.... AMD's TR CPUs seem to have the best bang for buck.

I'd say now I'm stuck with either choosing a TR 1950x or a TR 2950x. Opinions?

Get yourself an x399 sage and the 2950x. You won't be disappointed.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 11 and Fedora Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

PSU tier list

How many watts do I need?

PSU misconceptions, protections explainedgroup reg is bad

This sort of requires to also upgrade your mainboard... 1150 only goes for 4 cores max to the best of my knowledge and your workload screams for more cores/threats

Budget for CPU still the same then?

Whoops, I am doing a full rebuild I should mention!

What programs are you using?

THe 2950x is probably the best here

Blender, Maya, ZBrush, Substance Painter/Designer, Marmoset Toolbag, Nuke, Photoshop, After Affects, Illustrator. Programs once in a while would be Mari, Modo.

Id also be tempted to get a 9900k when they come out. The single threaded will be much better, and other than render the 9900k may be faster in many of those progras.
