Hello all,

I am trying to look into this topic but cannot find the answer I am looking for. Compatibility issues migrating from vmware to hyper-v? I have only found steps on how to do it, not any issues behind it.

Cheers

p.s move to correct section if there is a category for this.

Microsoft makes a tool to do exactly this for Server 08-12, I'd assume its been tested pretty thoroughly... : https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=42497

IIRC, on Server 2016 you have to jump through some hoops and use Disk2VHD. I've only ever converted VHDs to vmdks, but never had an issue there.

Out of curiosity, why are you jumping off of ESXi? I always hear of people leaving Hyper-V for ESXi, never the other way around.

Ah gotcha, well honestly I don't know if there are any compatibility issues. There is always the odd chance of something to go wrong, but I'd consider them more glitches than compatibility issues.

Unless they are referring to issues if you don't convert it, in that case its like trying to put a DVD into a VHS player...
