If you need to heat your room using electricity during the winter (like I do), by all means mine whenever it gets cold.  At least you'll make some of your electricity cost back. 

Don't expect to make a profit though.  I'm not breaking even when running my 1070s, so I wouldn't hold my breath on a 280.
