How to change from wired connection to wireless?

So I recently moved and I originally used a wired connection to my PC, now I'm forced to use wireless...

I have a wireless USB thingy in and my PC doesn't use it for some reason, it just sticks to using the wired port, even though nothing is there.

I'm on windows 8, any help is appreciated.

Maybe driver issue? I know that on my TP link usb wifi dongle, the rev 1.0 which I got is only compatible with Windows 7. The Rev 2.0 has drivers that work on Windows 8.

If Windows only lists the LAN/Wired connection under Network Connections, you sir most likely have a driver problem. To confirm, press <WINDOWS>+R on your keyboard, type "devmgmt.msc" without the quote's, and see if there's a device with a yellow triangle beside it, either under Unknown Devices, USB Devices, or Network Connections.

 

If so, you've found the problem, and would need to download drivers from the vendors website, which I would be happy to point you in the direction of if you'd post the model number of the wireless dongle you've got.
