2070VS1080Strix

Go to solution Solved by Ashiella,

I'd personally go for the 1080, you can get some for ~350 (probably not the strix) and hybrids about ~430 (USD)

Prior to launch, if you'd asked people to guess how 20 series would perform, they'd have told you 2080 would be better than the 1080 Ti and ray tracing was going to be amazing.  Now that reviews are out, we have realized that the 2080 is basically the same as the 1080 Ti and neither ray tracing nor any of the other special sauce we were promised is ready.  Please, just wait for actual tests to make your decision.

Solve your own audio issues  |  First Steps with RPi 3  |  Humidity & Condensation  |  Sleep & Hibernation  |  Overclocking RAM  |  Making Backups  |  Displays  |  4K / 8K / 16K / etc.  |  Do I need 80+ Platinum?

If you can read this you're using the wrong theme.  You can change it at the bottom.

Its pointless making any decisions rights now, we have no idea how the 2070 will perform.

Even the 2080 / Ti it seems they rushed it to launch and I highly suspect we will see improvements in the drivers over time.  Maybe not enough to warrant the current price, but if the 2080 fails to sell then maybe the price will come down.

Not to mention if your in a position where you can get a 2080 or 2080ti you would think that your plan is not to run 1080p just so your life can be ray trace graced.

If the performance difference in percentage between 2070 and 1080 is the same as 2080 to 1080ti, then the answer will be get the 1080. No idea if this will come true (they broke the new gen 70 card being as fast as old gen 80ti card rule)

That really depends if raytracing is as gimped on the 2070 as some people think and if you are going to be playing games that support it.

Personally I'm optimistic that even if it wont look as good, it will still be a step up from current shadow/lighting implementations.

It's still early so it's hard to tell but as far as I know only the 2080 ti is able to provide a passable experience in some games.  To try and get by with less is just asking for disappointment.

The only things we have seen are implementations done in two-weeks, its far from optimised thus why none of the games/patches are available at launch.

I'd expect it to have scaling options like any other GPU feature, crank down the quality for a higher frame rate.

Heck, if the 2070 can't pull a decent result I'd expect class-action lawsuits.
