So here's my little escapade of sending back my card for an RMA. I originally sent back a 1070 Gaming X for repair or replacement. I waited about a month to finally get an update on the website that the new card was being shipped out. I was so excited to finally be able to make use of the desktop again. I go down to my dorm's package window and pick up the box. I looked on the packing slip to see that it was a 1080 seahawk, I was so excited to receive an upgrade from my 1070. But there was a problem, I was sent the EK water block version of the card, when the card I sent back was one with fans. So the card I waited a month for I can't even use unless I spend more money to get all the EK water cooling hardware. I call MSI and they say they'll send an email to the warehouse to see about getting a different card back. A few days pass with no phone call so I call them to see what's up. The guy on the other end said that there was no new information they could give me about the status but he'll send another email out to try and find out and that he will call me back the next day. Next day, no call received all day. Now it's Thursday and i call back again and finally receive an update. The only cards in stock right now are the one they sent me and the 1070 Gaming X. So now I need to make a decision, sell the card they sent me, take the loss and get another 1070 or wait it out and try to get a 1080 with fans.

I could really use some advice here, thanks in advance.

Are you serious? You can afford a 1070 but can´t afford a water block?

I bought the 1070 when it first came out while I was still in high school, now im in college, not a lot of money to spare.

Edit: I can't afford the pump and reservoir I need for it, along with fittings, tubing, radiators and fans.

a 1080 with that waterblock like that is worth a whole lot more than your 1070...try to sell it to the right buyer and then you can buy yourself a 1080 or a 1080ti with fans on it...this is what i would do.

People on ebay are selling it for around 500$

with that exact waterblock on it? cause this is a really nice thing and it cost a lot to get one and they are hard to find...

did you at least test the card a bit to see if you can get a display signal out of it and boot in windows?

Didn't test it for fear of it overheating, but it is direct from MSI's RMA department

bahh if it overheat it will trottle...i wouldn't launch something extra demanding on it...but personally i would put it in a system and boot on it and maybe launch something in 3d that is light at 720P resolution just for a few seconds to see if the card works correctly.

Update, just tested the card, ran 7 days to die really quick on high settings, ran smooth till temp spike then throttled

right, that's exactly what you wanted to do...now at least you know you have a working card that you can sell if you need to.
