still got an ati sticker on my laptop from 4 years ago!

anyways, sunlight is hurting my eyes, was in cave for too long

tho, might add that my pc has uber sapphire radeon 9600 w/ 128mb memory

and this laptop got me trough everything i threw at it (i was a student and was moving back and forth every week, so it had to be mobile)

but now i'm settled and ready for home pc

and about the price, as i was looking at r9 290 and 780, the cheapest r9 starts at 400€, cheapest 780 starts at 480€, so price in that matter isn't really a big deal since i have 500€ and i'm bit flexible about that

main question was what would be better to invest atm, if anything, mantle or g-sync

p.s.

r9 290x is 520€, so it would be a candidate, if it's really worth it

this

http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4810#ov

and this

http://www.evga.com/Products/Product.aspx?pn=03G-P4-3784-KR

cost about the same, gtx being slightly more at 537€ and 290x at 520€

A person is smart. People are dumb, panicky dangerous animals and you know it.

Even with the fact that the 780 has been beating 290 when both OC'd and the 290 is more expensive? (although it might be less where OP is)

Those tests are invalid, the 780 was overclocked and over-volted, the 290 was running at stock voltage.

Also the 290 IS faster and significantly so.

Why do you think the prices have gone up on the 290 ? the demand is shooting through the roof because it's a better card and people know  it.

People don't buy them to mine coins, that's the stupidist thing I've ever heard, 280X are far more Hash/$ efficient and GPU mining for bitcoin is over, it's all asics now.

Uhhh... Well then. I'm referring to Linus's benchmarks. They were both fully OC'd. BOTH FULLY OC'D. The 780 and 290 are very close IN GAMES. The 290 is better for mining.

No they were not BOTH fully OCed, only the 780 was FULLY Oced, the 290 WAS NOT.

You can check the overclocking doc yourself, it clearly shows the 780 was over-volted by an offset of 38mv while the 290 was running at stock voltage.

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AmLKAgEko3SAdHFtby1jNTFvaTF2UHhaMzdMQ0FNM2c&usp=sharing#gid=0

The doc also shows that Linus has a 780 Lightning review coming.

ooh, looks like Slick has "changed his ways" the reference R9 290 is now running at 20mhz higher and has a 200mv VDDC offset, this was not there before.

He must've read the 290 vs 780 thread.
