GPU Test without RAM and CPU possible?

Is it possible to check if the GPU is running without CPU and RAM on the Motherboard. Im probably gonna buy a gtx 1080 on offerup for really good price box open brand new, seller has 500+ items sold and 5 star rating from 150 customers. Dont have all parts yet for pc and dont want to get ripped off. Help would be awesome. Thanks.

You need a working system to test a gpu, so no.

 

Id buy all the parts at once.

If you have a friend with a computer then you can try that... I'm not sure how offerup works. If you're picking the GPU up in person you can ask him to test it for you. If it's being shipped, make sure you get some kind of return policy or purchase protection. I know paypal has good purchase protection.

There is a return policy. I was thinking of asking a friend. How will that work? Just turn pc off plug his gpu out and put mine in??

Pretty much. Here's a quick run-down;

1. Shut down the PC in question, switch the power supply off using the switch on the back of the case
2. Then hit the front power button once, to clear any residual charge. Pc may try to start, that's normal. after that it shouldn't do anything when you press the power button.
3. Open up the case, unbolt the GPU, it's ower cables etc.
4. Fit your new GPU(may need more power cables, depending on the previous card), swich the system on. Listen for any strange noises.
5. Hit the windows button and type Device Manager, then look under 'display adapters' to see if the GPU has been recognised.
6a. Update the drivers if the other card was also an nVidia 

6b. Remove drivers and install new ones, if it was an AMD card in there before
7. Boom, you should be done! 

For a proper GPU test, you'll want to run a stress tester like FurMark, for a minimum of 30 minutes, as well as a few regular games, etc. This will make sure the card doesn't act strangely when under full load. But don't do both at once!
