PS and LR pc

19_blackie_73

Hey guys,

a friend of mine needs a new pc, only purpose is Lightroom and Photoshop as she is a professional photographer. No peripherals or windows needed, also storage is excluded. Budget is 700€ in germany.
My instinct says sth like the 8700 because of the ipcs, and maybe a 1050 at max as a video card or go with onboard video. case should be as casual and stealth as possible and have at least 2 3.5 inch bays.

What do you think?

Thanks for any input!

It would be, but it would be harder to incorporate into that tight of a budget, because the cpu itself is 350€, then add 100€ for a motherboard, 150€ for ram, and the rest of the system has to come from a 100€, so in that case you would have to use the igpu. But then again lightroom and photoshop dont need a gpu that much, so that would be also a very good build.

I'll quickly make a build with an i7 for you.

I only see your reply if you @ me.

This is a touch over budget.

Uses the stock cpu cooler.

No need for faster memory as locked Coffee Lake i5 and i7 will not run memory faster than DDR4-2666.

A discrete gpu will improve productivity.

i like my itx build more.

If you are building for someone else always use a nice case, not some crappy looking coolermaster.

Then the person you are building it for is much happier with the result,

also the gtx 1050ti is very unneccessary for a photoshop only build, the igpu will suffice.

I only see your reply if you @ me.

A discrete gpu may not be "necessary", but for a professional time is money and it will definitely improve productivity. https://www.pugetsystems.com/labs/articles/Photoshop-CC-2017-NVIDIA-GeForce-GPU-Performance-899/

A professional user is much more interested in performance than how nice the insides of their black box looks. Windowed cases are a waste of resources, especially in a budget build. Besides, case aesthetics are very much personal preference.

Yeah 2 effects benefit from it, it is very necessary.

Anyways looking at the graphs gtx 1050, and probably gt 1030 is a much better buy that a gtx 1050ti, because the 1050ti and 1050 2gb are 0,4% from each other in performance.

But yeah i didn't know it was a windowed case, i would like it more if it had a non windowed version.

Anyways @19_blackie_73 choose a few cases and show them to your friend before buying, and ask which one he/she likes the most. That way you can be sure that they are happy with the result.

@Origami Cactus, go back and review the data, all but two of the tested functions benefit significantly from a discrete gpu. I do agree that a GTX 1050 would be a reasonable choice.

I think a GTX 1050 would be the lowest power discrete gpu worth using in this build.

We'll see what the budget allows, the thing I'm struggling with is the poor value of the gt1030 but the savings are at the point where I'm at least considering it

Yes, I agree light room benefits from cuda cores.

But having a better cpu on the first hand will be better. GPU can be upgraded whenever needed.

Also, u hv to work within the budget provided by the customer.
