Im going with XenServer for my home servers.

My issue is I am planning to get the OS running off of a 32GB flash drive I bought to use on the inside of the machine (internal USB port), with all the VMs stored on hard drives. After I tried to install it, I was told there was insufficient space. Does anyone know how I could get it running off of the flash drive, or is it just not possible? Also is it practical to run off of the flash drive?

Thanks

Citrix lists a minimum of 46GB of usable space for XenServer. You'll need a bigger drive or switch hypervisors. Proxmox should fit, and ESXi can run off a 2GB stick even.

PC Specs - AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D MSI B550M Mortar - 32GB Corsair Vengeance RGB DDR4-3600 @ CL16 - ASRock RX7800XT 660p 1TBGB & Crucial P5 1TB Fractal Define Mini C CM V750v2 - Windows 11 Pro

I didnt know that. Thanks

As for ProxMox, i just need to look into it more. Ive seen XenServer and EXSi in use in person before and really liked them. The reason I didnt use ESXi is my R610 CPUs arent supported, and it wont install. (Xeon E5504) If you know a way around I would love to try it but I looked and couldnt find much

You can run older releases of ESXi on that, namely anything from 4.x to 6.5. I have a similar server with an E5540 and that runs 6.5 U2 just fine. I'm not sure if the link for the free version for 6.5 is still around. If not, you could probably download it from somewhere else and put in your free key. It'll work on any ESXi 6.x.

Also, the R610 can probably run E56xx Xeons as well, those support 6.7.
