I know a TON of people who use those little earbuds from like Wal-Mart and they sound just fine lol. If you're using things like audio pickup the background might pick up though. Don't get me wrong, having a nice headset is great for games that don't need push-to-talk, but don't spend more money on a mic over a nice gpu.

TBH if you are buying now I wouldn't recommend anything under say 3gb. You can get a 780, 780ti,970, maybe a 980, and a 1050ti... used for all under 100 if you hunt for them. Getting a 1gb card will not yield good results and having a bad frame rate will take a lot of the immersion out of your game. You can live with less than perfect sound or mic capabilities. So get the GPU, then start saving for a headset.

Which specific cards are you talking about?

Make sure to quote me or tag me when responding to me, or I might not know you replied! Examples:

Do this:

Buy whatever product is best for you, not what product is "best" for the market.

Interested in computer architecture? Still in middle or high school? P.M. me!

I love computer hardware and feel free to ask me anything about that (or phones). I especially like SSDs. But please do not ask me anything about Networking, programming, command line stuff, or any relatively hard software stuff. I know next to nothing about that.

I have a HD 7750 1gb card in my living room media center backed by an i5 3470 - This card can play okay 1080p but games like GTA 5 can only play in 720p due to low VRAM - I am replacing my media center card with either a 2gb or 4gb 1050ti (power consumption) because of the low VRAM ONLY - get something with 3+ ram on the GPU, or save till you can afford that or you will be replacing in a year

You can get a gtx 760 for about £60-80 and it's got 2gb vram. I'm using it currently and it's a Great card! Vram isn't the BEST but I haven't had a problem with it and I play fairly demanding games on high settings. (The 1050 is about the same but more vram) you can check YouTube for benchmarks on 760s and 1050s there petty good. Don't get a 1gb vram card.... I would get a good GPU over a good mic.

you should probably get a card with at least 4gb of vram.

With those cards, I doubt his budget is that large. Plus, 2 GB of VRAM will do you just fine.

I suppose if you are playing older games you are correct. but if you were to play newer games like farcry 5 on lowest settings in 1080p will use 1.95gb in the open world sections.

he said he is intending to use it for gaming, so will probably want to play recent titles.

If he had the money for 4 GB cards, then why would he be looking into getting those 1 GB cards?

If you're on a budget you shouldn't expect to play new games at high settings.
