So I'm familiar with MSI Afterburner, and I only use it for fan curve management at this point since I get plenty good performance out of my GPU at stock clocks with GPU boost since it's basically brand new.

Just one question: Does Afterburner have to run in the background to perform management of your graphics card's overclock and fans?

I'd like to close the app because I think it causes conflicts with some of my games. It's a shame that something supporting your graphics ends up crashing the programs that utilize those graphics. At any rate, any feedback here would be appreciated, thanks.

If it’s set to apply settings on boot it should. And would be able to not have the program itself start with windows.

Why do you think that?

MSI afterburner hasn't done anything weird for me ever.

Just click the "-" button instead of "x" to close the tab, that way it runs in the background.

I only see your reply if you @ me.

MSI Afterburner itself shouldn't cause conflicts with games as far as I'm aware. Rivatuner's overlay is responsible for the majority of issues related to MSI AB's info being displayed as an OSD. Certain games really do not like other things being injected into their DX runtimes. Nor do ENBs.

New Build (The Compromise): CPU - i7 9700K @ 5.1Ghz Mobo - ASRock Z390 Taichi | RAM - 16GB G.SKILL TridentZ RGB 3200CL14 @ 3466 14-14-14-30 1T | GPU - ASUS Strix GTX 1080 TI | Cooler - Corsair h100i Pro | SSDs - 500 GB 960 EVO + 500 GB 850 EVO + 1TB MX300 | Case - Coolermaster H500 | PSUEVGA 850 P2 | Monitor - LG 32GK850G-B 144hz 1440p | OSWindows 10 Pro.

Forums related to the games mentioned it. And I have run it in the background, I think that's what causes problems. I'm just wondering if it functions normally if I choose to not do so. If it does, and I'm not immediately looking at it, then it shouldn't matter if I just turn it off.

Rivatuner's overlay

I don't use the overlay, but I've thought about uninstalling it. Probably a good idea.
