Hello Forum, I'd love your amazing help again! :D

If you guys can point me in the right direction it would be great! Pc purpose: I play a little overwatch, Rainbow Six Siege a LOT! and I plan on buying the new black ops 4 as it is a game my friend are playing and I love zombies, anywho. I play Rainbow six siege at a high level, (If you call plat 2 and 1 high). i would really like to upgrade to a 144hz 1080p monitor (don't care for 1440p). I currently have some average budget LG monitor I have overclocked to 75hz. My Card is a GTX 770 2gb and I have a trusty 4790k at 4.4GHZ. I currently have 8gb's of ram, however I purchased 32gb's off a mater at a highly discounted price. I also alongisde that I purchased a 4670k and MSI Z79 Gaming mobo (eitehr the mobo or cpu is broke, he has nothing to test either so I bought them for $50). I currently use MSI SLI Krait Edition mobo, is the GAMING mobo a downgrade if anything, (I prefer the black and red colour scheme). If you cannot tell by my spelling I'm Australian, so take that into consideration. Currently the AUD is 0.72 USD, so prices will be greater. I really want to purchase a GTX 1070 or 1070ti or 1060. I am purchasing 2nd hand. For my use case, what do you fellas recommend? Will the 1060 support HIGH settings on siege at 144hz 1080p? Or do I pony up for the 1070 or 1070ti? Currently 6gb 1060s second hand are on offer are $250 to $300. Gtx 1070's are $400 to $500. A nice ASUS 1070 ti is $600, woth the premium? Other OEMs like zotac going for $450-$550. Should I wait longer for prices to go down also? Sorry for everything being convoluted, thank you for your time!

For 1080p at 144hz I strongly recommend the 1070 over the 1060. You won't have to reduce settings nearly as much, if at all, in most games with the 1070 to maintain near-144 FPS as compared to the 1060.

Not to mention the 1070 will make full use out of a 144hz 1080p monitor for much longer than the 1060.

As for the mobo there is practically no difference between the two you specified that I'm aware of. VRM/power delivery quality is not very relevant because i5's demand substantially less power than i7's for the most part even when overclocked.

New Build (The Compromise): CPU - i7 9700K @ 5.1Ghz Mobo - ASRock Z390 Taichi | RAM - 16GB G.SKILL TridentZ RGB 3200CL14 @ 3466 14-14-14-30 1T | GPU - ASUS Strix GTX 1080 TI | Cooler - Corsair h100i Pro | SSDs - 500 GB 960 EVO + 500 GB 850 EVO + 1TB MX300 | Case - Coolermaster H500 | PSUEVGA 850 P2 | Monitor - LG 32GK850G-B 144hz 1440p | OSWindows 10 Pro.

Peripherals - Corsair K70 Lux RGB | Corsair Scimitar RGB | Audio-technica ATH M50X + Antlion Modmic 5 |

CPU/GPU history: Athlon 6000+/HD4850 > i7 2600k/GTX 580, R9 390, R9 Fury > i7 7700K/R9 Fury, 1080TI > Ryzen 1700/1080TI > i7 9700K/1080TI.

Other tech: Surface Pro 4 (i5/128GB), Lenovo Ideapad Y510P w/ Kali, OnePlus 6T (8G/128G), PS4 Slim.

I'd say it is worth it to get at least 1070, especially considering that you want to play BO4. My biggest concern would be the CPU,

Ex-EX build: Liquidfy C+... R.I.P.

Hey thanks man, do I bother with the 1070ti? Will my 4790k bottleneck it (It has headroom for 4.6ghz I remember, or is that too far? runs cool on dual radiator). Someone mentioned the Gaming had more power phases, will that benefit me?

If you're wanting stable fps that high AND high settings, i'd really recommend a 1070 or 1070 Ti based on my estimation. I could look into it a little more, but I ran the Black Ops 4 beta (for multiplayer) at 120 fps max settings 1440p and I have a 1080 and Ryzen 5 1600.

Motherboard upgrade/downgrade just depends on the features you like. Durability and longevity can vary even between a single model, and often just going with a brand you trust suffices. Just make sure the mobo supports the version of memory you have (DDR2/3/4) and the socket you want to use (LGAxxxx whatever).

Prices for pascal are going to be better than they were since turing is basically out now, and since so many people had been holding their breath for it. I'd say those are good prices for a 1070 Ti if you plan on sticking with pascal for a while (which I think is a good plan). I really wouldn't recommend 2nd hand, though, you'll appreciate having a warranty on a $500-ish item.

I'm East US, but I'm a big CoD zombies fan, too. Been catching up on BO3 for this new season, you're welcome to check my profile for the steam link and add me if you're interested in playing when BO4 comes out.

Thought you had the i5 4670k?

Anyway yes that Gaming mobo has more power phases than the Krait iirc. This allows for more reliable overclocking and longer lifespan especially if ambient temps are high, but for mild overclocks either board would be fine.

As for the 1070TI, it would set you up nicely at 1080p 144hz in pretty much every game out there, though demanding and/or upcoming games may have to have settings reduced a tad to keep framerates up. With Turing GPUs out now, prices might drop low enough for the 1070TI to possibly give you a nice deal at some point.

Aye bruh I've been loving Zombie chronicles and The giant as I couldn't play the BO1 maps when I was younger. Game's a bit easier, origins is still amazing, missing mob of the dead however. I do know motherboard compatibility pretty well for everything within my generation. MSI is my favorite vendor. I just wanted to know if the board would have any benefit aside from aesthetics. Currently BO3 destroys my card, have to run lowest settings on some maps, which is sad to see. I hold on my cards for a long term, and 2nd hand is what I bought with my GTX 770, I appreciate your concern however

Just check DRAM slots, I/O, mosfets for overclocking (if that's your thing), PCI slots (if you need them), solid state capacitors, fan headers, USB headers, compatibility with case, and obviously that the board functions properly and isn't damaged.

770 isn't the worst for CoD (better than PS3), but definitely not modern at this point.

As far as second hand, as long as you're careful you shouldn't run into any problems, but there is risk.

Ah sorry man, I should have made myself clear. I purchased a 4670k, MSI Gaming motherboard and 32gb's of ram off a friend who just had it lying around. he now runs a skylake system and the pc has problems. He lives in a different state and is shipping me the components currently so I havent seen them. I purchased the cpu and mobo for $50! Which is $36 USD. Ram for for $200 AUD. These are the cards I am currently discussing with the sellersimage.png.eef9874a9fc9eaa0e5c8ecd59a860dc9.png

Each seller offers a benchmark at purchasing place (card running and everything). I hope that is safe enough I guess. I bought my GTX 770 for $200 back in 2015, I had a limited budget and the card has served me so well. thats my core temps under light loadimage.png.e4426633c897170826b9b8132583ca9d.png

Grab that 1070TI FE card for $420 AUD or lower if you can negotiate it. That's by far the best deal out of all those.

It has a bit worse cooling performance compared to the latter cards, but it's nothing that a fan curve tweak won't fix.

That might take some research into voltage draw. I know that PSU ripple factors into it as well. It's basically a matter of retesting the overclock (or watching/reading reviews of someone who has) to see the voltage the board can handle. I'm not an overclocking mastermind, and I got a board that was mid-tier to budget (just got a good deal on a mid-tier board) and I get mid-tier overclocks. Ryzen 5 1600 can go to 4.0, but I can only get mine to just above 3.8, and I sit at 3.8 because I think I had minor instability. And that's with 5 noctua fans and a meshify C with great thermal properties. Thermals are not the issue. I might be able to push the voltage a little more, but the max was sitting around 3.85.

Bottom line, research reviews and comparisons. In the end, there are endless tiers of upgrading and downgrading, and you just have to decide where you'd like to sit and what's important to you.

You guys have been a great help! I will discuss with the seller the founders edition, a lot of people keep ads up once the product is soler however.
