Laggy gameplay, stuttering, FPS drops.

Hey guys

I have an Alienware arora R7 with a gtx1080. I have always been facing this issue with frame drops but thought it was normal. Recently I was playing ARMA 3 and was facing stuttering when I moved the player from stationary everytime. The fps dropped down to 12 every now and then. I was playing on default settings btw. Attached is a graph of all the devices while playing. I'm really frustrated by this.

Have u tried upgrading the drivers for the GPU?

 ok this will seems silly but have you cleaned the heat fins lately? it almost looks like your throttling. could be cpu or gpu or both throttling.

ok i wasn't sure. if it is doing this and it is throttling. During the manufacture process maybe the thermal paste didn't apply well enough or maybe defective. I would say it being new you should contact manufacture on this one.

Sir the cpu is fine but the gpu usage is crazy as you can see from the graph

when I see graph like that it usually is throttling. However, make sure you have driver 399.** installed. also before doing that run DDU

This is usually software/driver related. What other softwares do you have running on the background?

@xAcid9 Gta V also lags a bit. Also the GPU temps are around 82Celsius

Throttle Temperature for that GPU as a discrete video card is 82C-84C. So this definitely is your issue. Be sure the GPU FANs are running at 100% people from

Found that the normal software didn't engage the GPU FAN(s) but that they needed to download the presion software from EVGA. I would Imagine that MSI Afterburner would also work. After you get one of those programs downloaded and installed. Enable the program to be able to control the FAN(s), voltage, etc.  and set a very aggressive FAN(s) curve to where it would go 100% FAN(s) at 65C. Your video card may have Zero-Frozr, but maybe it was incorrectly defaulted and is set the wrong way in the GPU BIOS. IF downloading and installing either the EVGA or MSI GPU programs works for setting the FAN(s) to 100% by 65C let me know and than do another test like you originally did. I have also seen the Alienware laptops sometimes have a max FAN(s) button on the top right above the keyboard that forces them to ramp up much more aggressively.

I would love to see the graph of the GPU % underload after you make sure the FAN(s) are going max.

 

If your temps on the GPU get over 74C on full FAN(s) than one of two things is going on and neither of them you would want to fix as it is under warranty. 

1. GPU thermal paste is applied wrong or of a defective nature
2. Bad GPU chip which is running hotter than the system can dissipate. Remember that this GPU has a 250W TDP and the CPU is probably 65W TDP
