Hey folks,

I've found a great deal on a CPU and I'll be upgrading soon. I'll be upgrading to a Ryzen 2600 that was only lightly used and in near mint condition however it seems there might be some finger prints on the top of the CPU. What is the best way to clean them off? Do I even have to clean them off? I'll be applying thermal past and installing a 3rd party CPU cooler for the first time so this is kind of a new process for me. Only other time I've installed a CPU was with help (help as in someone else mounted the CPU for me and put the heatsink on). Any advice is appreciated.

I wouldn't worry about fingerprints on a CPU, I've left tons of those on CPUs that work fine to this day.

Just watch any CPU installation guide from Linus Tech Tips, JayzTwoCents, Paul's Hardware, or Bitwit and you'll basically be an expert.

Like Crunchy there said, I wouldn't worry. I've never bothered to care about such, but if you do want a shiny, clean surface, isopropyl alcohol without any additives in it (don't buy one that includes additives in it) is your friend for removing grease, including fingerprints.

Thanks for the advice guys. I'm pretty stoked for this upgrade and I'll also be installing a Cryorig H7 Quad Lumi. This will be my first PC build that I'll be doing on my own. Although I am a little anxious about mounting the CPU and cooler I'm certain I can do it. Got a great deal on the CPU as I said and a great deal on the GPU 350$ for a sapphire Vega 64.

That IS a pretty good deal, considering the fact that's about the price of a new GTX 1070 or RX Vega 56. But yeah, good luck, and be confident in yourself!
