So I'm thinking of building a new PC, here's the part list I've came up with: https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/XXNLpG

I already have 16GB of RAM, a 1TB WD Blue HDD, and a GTX 970 that I can move to this PC.

My build will be used for a little bit of everything including schoolwork, productivity, and light 1080p gaming.

I haven't added a case to my part list because I want some recommendations from you guys. I also don't want to buy an AIO liquid cooler because my past experiences with them haven't been great. I also want to overclock my CPU a bit so I've went with an 8600K and an EVGA Z370 FTW motherboard, as well as a decent CPU cooler. I want my build to be quiet, which is why I went with the DR4 cooler.

My budget for everything excluding the RAM, HDD, and GPU is $800 CAD.

So what are your thoughts on this build? Is there anything you think I should change? Thanks in advance.

I like this build. It would definitely be enough for 1080P gaming, and maybe even a little bit of 1440P, at some lower settings.

Seems fine. You could go with a Ryzen to be more cost effective, but looks fine.

Any recommendations for the case?

If it looks nice, and has all the features you want, at a price you're comfortable with, go for it. Only advice I'll give you? Unless you're trying to make an RGB monstrosity, don't spend more than $100 on the case.

I really don't care about how the build looks too much (it shouldn't look ugly though). I want my case to be quiet and have good airflow.

Yeah, just look for cheap cases that have what you're looking for. You can find good-looking cases for as little as $40, and ones that are very quiet with great airflow for the same price, if not, only slightly more.

Looks good. I'd suggest waiting for Black Friday though, it's only 7 or 8 weeks away and you can either save a significant amount of money, or get significantly better parts for the same budget.

Eh, the 970 won't handle 1440p that nicely.

Yeah, it won't handle 1440P very well, I just said it's capable of it.

And yeah, RGB isn't the only thing, that was just a joke. There are plenty of reasons a case worth $100 or more is desirable.

And yes, Black Friday will bring some GREAT savings.

I've already waited a long time, and I can't wait any longer (not because I'm not patient but because I NEED the PC soon)

BTW, what do you recommend for a case that costs under $54 CAD

I wouldn't, I'd at least save up a little more to get something half decent.
