Quick Question

TheDevil1533

Hello,

I just had some questions about doing a NAS and a computer in one. I've been thinking about doing it but saving up the money and asking some questions before i do it.

P.S this is going to be a family computer

-are you able to turn off and on a VM from the local machine itself or would i have to open Freenas every time my family wanted to use the VM

-i don't know if this is even possible but, is there a chance to make a partition on a hard drive that acts as a NAS

Thanks

You could just share folders on your PC.

If you're interested in a product please download and read the manual first.

Don't forget to tag or quote in your reply if you want me to know you've answered or have another question.

If you have NAS and computer in one. Basicly the PC itself would be a hypervisor with passthrought. Once you kill one of the services or turn off the pc everything goes. There is no one or the other.

As a family PC i wouldn't recommend building a system like this. It's way too easy to make a mistake. If the system was for you alone, it would probably work fine, but you are still better off buying a NAS instead of having PC and NAS in one.

I would either have a seperate NAS unit like just a small 2 bay QNAP/Synology/etc...or you could consider building a dual system. The new Phanteks Evolv X is a beautiful case that supports an ATX + ITX build. They also do a PSU called the Phantek Revolt X which allows you to connect 2 systems with 1 PSU
