Well you don't need to spend anywhere near $5K for a decent PC even with monitors it's under $3K

For some reason 240hz displays are cheap in AUS, added one over a 144hz display

wouldn't bother with G-sync, displays will work fine with the 1080

Motherboard prices seem almost exponential if you want a solid/good one. That one will be fine for the 6 core even with a minor OC.

No gaming PC is going to last 8 years as the GPU gets quickly outdated. Still perfectly functional and playable mind you, but technically outdated nonetheless

Need to use the permalink in the box right above the parts.

Is the PC being used for anything besides gaming?

I edit my posts a lot, Twitter is @LordStreetguru just don't ask PC questions there mostly...

Spoiler

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

What games or other software do you need to run?

If you have a higher budget probably go for any X470 board from MSI/Gigabyte on the lower end...maybe just grab the R7 2700 8 core but it's not needed for just gaming.

Also add in any decent air cooler to replace the stock one.

X470 pricing in AUS is straight broken, look at the difference from X370 boards on the part picker.

You could get an X370 Taichi at $199 which is great, but it may need a BIOS update before it'll work with the 2000 series CPU
https://au.pcpartpicker.com/product/fZKhP6/asrock-x370-taichi-atx-am4-motherboard-x370-taichi

At $259 is the best with the CROSSHAIR VI, it can flash the BIOS without a CPU, so even if it doesn't work out of the box it can be fixed.
https://au.pcpartpicker.com/product/gj7CmG/asus-crosshair-vi-hero-atx-am4-motherboard-crosshair-vi-hero

So I guess if you wanted an 8 core go for that...but new motherboards are coming with Ryzen 3000 next year as well.

so if purely gaming the ASrock Pro 4 B450/Tomahawk B450 will be fine with the R5 2600

If you just want the best then

Totally not worth it over a 1080 at nearly half the price

Same with the 1440p display, don't think it's needed if he already has a 4k IPS display on the side, might as well go 1080p 240hz.
