DVD drive not IDing any DVDs

Hi LTT,

 

I have issues with my DVD drive. A friend gave me this pretty cool computer for free. The DVD drive, however, was not cool at all. It worked for a few days after I got it, but now it stopped working. The BIOS IDs it as operational, but when I put a DVD in it in Windows, it says, " Please insert a disk into :x." Then it ejects the drive, rejecting my DVD. I almost ragequit after this situation. DVD? MORE LIKE DVDEAD! I am trying to install Windows 7, but this DVD drive is a big headache.

Current Rig: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600, Abit IN9-32MAX nForce 680i board, Galaxy GT610 1GB DDR3 gpu, Cooler Master Mystique 632S Full ATX case, 1 2TB Seagate Barracuda SATA and 1x200gb Maxtor SATA drives, 1 LG SATA DVD drive, Windows 10. All currently runs like shit :D

use usb stick to install...

also the DVD may be broken

 

My computer does not support booting to USB. Its an Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 with Vista Ultimate x86.

Just search in bios boot order USB-HDD or something like that (or thr manual boot)... even my socket 478 QDI mobo supports USB booting...

 

Still ain't working. But I have a new issue. I installed a different DVD drive, but still won't boot from the DVD. It just bypasses it and goes to the bootstrapper. What could possibly cause this? I am desperate to install Windows 7.

Check the DVD in other PC if you can, If it takes time to load it, then...

Just to check if the DVD is ok, if it takes time to load it in any pc, then it might be broken

 

The DVD is brand new, how can it be broken?
