is 1000 dpi a good dpi for a standard mouse  or should upgrade to a better gaming mouse with buttons

It depends. I use 1400 dpi for a 1080p monitor, for me that is good (my mouse is configurable). If your mouse feels good and suits your needs, then its fine.

I use a g402 because I like the buttons for lots of games and it is confortable.

 

I used to have a g600 but it was too heavy and I used only 50% of its buttons
