Dumb question...

Hey guys, newbie builder here. So I'm in the middle of buying parts for my PC build and I have a DUMB question.

If I get a fan cooling system such as Dark Rock Pro 4 https://pcpartpicker.com/product/F3gzK8/be-quiet-dark-rock-pro-4-505-cfm-cpu-cooler-bk022?history_days=730

Can I still get Liquid cooling to keep my pcu cool? Or is there some sort of compatibility/spacing issue?

Thanks and sorry for the silly question!

ok so you dont get both. You either get an air cooler OR get a water cooler. Since you have only one CPU you can only fit one cooler at a time

If you want to change it lets say after a year you want to go from air cooling to liquid cooling, the only thing you need to watch out for is, that the new cooler supports your socket. You dismount the air cooler and all it's parts, mount the water cooler and done

Ok that's what I figured, thanks.

I've watched many build guides and I guess I just missed that obvious information.

May I ask what you believe is better for longevity? I will be putting a 1070 ti with an i7 8700k -> Both overclocked.

I believe the liquid cooling is "better" but will it die out before the air cooling would have and etc etc.

So the thing with the 8700K is that they get very warm when overclocked, even stock temperatures are unusually high. I would advise for an AIO Liquidcooling solution since you want to overclock. If you dont overdo it and stay I would say 75-80°C in synthetic load I dont see any reason for your CPU to die. AIO definetly will keep it cooler than an air cooler especially in hot days like we had this summer. Sure it's not by much considering how far we came with aircooling solutions but still. Every temp counts and the AIO should keep everything cool and fresh.

Sweet, thanks man. I'll be on the hunt for a nice liquid cooling system now. They're not even that much more costly than the air cooling I was going to get.

Yeah they become more and more mainstream which is nice and the best part about liquid cooling is, if let's say you want to dl a game over night and dont put any loads on your cpu just turn off the fans and the circulating liquid will be enough to transfer the heat and passively cool it at the radiator. Sure it's a unusual thing to do but for someone like me it's something nice to have since my inet is garbage and my pc is literally an arms reach away from my pillow so not having to deal with a fan noise is something nice

I didn't even think about that. I currently get 200mb/sec with my internet provider. The case fans of course would still run, correct? Or am I wrong on that one. I really appreciate the help.

Just be sure to get an AIO with at least a 240mm radiator. Bigger sure is better but not every case would fit that.

What case do you have by the way?

CPU: i7-12700KF Grill Plate Edition // MOBO: Asus Z690-PLUS WIFI D4 // RAM: 16GB G.Skill Trident Z 3200MHz CL14

GPU: MSI GTX 1080 FE // PSU: Corsair RM750i // CASE: Thermaltake Core X71 // BOOT: Samsung Evo 960 500GB

STORAGE: WD PC SN530 512GB + Samsung Evo 860 500GB // COOLING: Full custom loop // DISPLAY: LG 34UC89G-B

No case at this moment so I'm very open to suggestions on it. I was looking at a Fractal Design Meshify C case though, Mid tower ATX - may need to go full tower though.
