Hey guys

I'm looking for some advice on upgrading my pc. I recently put a gtx 1070TI into my pc and I'm looking to upgrade the CPU, Ram and mobo now. I'm currently running an MSI z97 Gaming 5, 16GB of Kingston HyperX Savage at 1866MHz and have a stock I5 4690k (never felt confident to overclock it as my case doesn't support radiators for liquid cooling and lacks clearance for the higher end air coolers). I'm considering getting a Z370 Board with an I5 8600k and 16GB of DDR4 RAM (probably the vengeance lpx 2400 kit). I was wondering if you guys think I should do the upgrade or rather get a new case with a decent cpu cooler and overclock the current 4690k? I have the option to do both.

The 2 extra cores makes the 8600k a very good cpu and less likely to struggle in the more multithreaded games that are coming out now. But you will likely want to overclock the 8600k to see it's full beinfit otherwise you could just get the 8400.

I'm in a little bit of a tight situation, since the 8600k doesn't come with a stock cooler I have budgeted to get a low profile cheaper after market cooler, if I was to go that route, and I wouldn't be able to get a bigger case and better cooler for a couple months. Would it still be worth it to go with the 8600k just using it at stock for a few months or just get the 8400 and a B360 motherboard?

I mean the 8600k would be better down the road if you did end up getting the better case and cooler but that is an extra expense. It really depends on what you want to do. The only issue is that the amount it's going to cost you to upgrade to ddr4 is a good bit so you kinda want as much performance increase as you can get. If you are planning on upgrading the case later anyways then absolutely get the 8600k and upgrade the case and cpu cooler later.

alright thanks man! I think I will just get the upgrade and hopefully in December will earn a bit more cash to do the case and cooler.
