No, it takes a lot of testing to find out if your overclock is truly stable. You have to run test for very long amounts of time, sometimes even overnight, and certain programs will leverage the compute power differently and one might make it crash while nothing else will. For that CPU, if my memory serves me correct, should be just fine based on first impressions. If there’s no immediate shutdowns it should be fine, but if you start experiencing crashes with a certain program or game, trying turning the clocks down or the voltage up a tiny bit and see if that helps.

Use your computer daily to see if it is truly stable. You can pass the stress test, but your PC might crash when it comes to real world app usage.

So, I just use my pc like regularly and if it crashes, it means that my overclock is not stable right???

Just run a few passes of cinebench and it's probably going to be fine.

I edit my posts a lot, Twitter is @LordStreetguru just don't ask PC questions there mostly...

Spoiler

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

What games or other software do you need to run?

Yeah. Use your PC regularly and runs all your daily apps. If your PC doesn't crash at all within a week than you are fine.

Ya, I have seen reviews and a lot of people saying this CPU can overclock to 5ghz, but I just want 4.6 ghz with 1.2v.

Yes it is fine and safe. You should worry when the temperature reach 85C and beyond.

Ya cause I only get max 78 temp when I use the intelburntest at very high level for 10 runs otherwise I am playing overwatch at 40 temp cpu. So I should be fine right?

Yes. As I said earlier, you should be worry if the temperature reach 85C and beyond.

One more question. Do you think 4.6 ghz is good with 1.2 v? Like 1.2v isnt too high for 4.6ghz

its fine, if the pc crashes (unlikely) its not a big deal anyway.

some general guidelines

1. make sure your CPU core temp never exceeds over 85C under load. (may be too conservative for some but for 24/7 usage, 85C should be the max under load)

-78C sounds pretty conservative, but on the other hand, I live in a temperate region so during summer, I have to dial back my OC. My computer crashed numerous times this summer...

2. make sure you run prime 95 stress test overnight. If it functions fine after 12 hours of stress testing, you are completely golden. (I recommend blend test) since it tests both ram and CPU

-yes, I am aware that blend test of 12 hours is a complete overkill. But if it passes the 12 hours of blend testing, it is nearly 100% rock stable.

By following these two steps, the chances of your computer crashing is now reduced to almost non-existent.

If your computer still fails even after following the aforementioned two steps, up your CPU voltage by an incremental amount and redo step 1 and 2.
